Cannot access network resources over Server 2003 VPN. Can ping internal IP addresses, but not names

Question:

I’ve set up a VPN with Server 2003.  I can connect to the VPN from outside the network with no problem, but I can only access shares on the VPN Server.  I can ping the locations of other network resources by IP, but cannot access any of them by name.
For instance, I can ping a server with IP 192.168.1.170, but when I try to explore it by entering \\c-w-bl-5 (the server’s name) with explorer, It can’t find it.
All of  my servers are stand alone: no active directory, I use a simple off-the-shelf router for DHCP, DNS, etc.  The user credentials used to access the VPN exist on all servers.
Please Help!

Solution:

Fairly obvious it is a DNS error of some sort.
Is the router furnishing the IP for the VPN link? if not, you will have to enter the DNS server address manually.
As a workaround, you can use the IPaddress instead of the name in explorer e.g.:

\\192.168.0.25\sharename
