Debian shutdown

Question:
Hi,
I installed my first linux (debian), so I am a total newbie.
I am using the gui (gnome), I looked everywhere, but can’t find the shutdown (poweroff) button, I have to open the terminal and type poweroff to turn off the system, I do have a ‘log out’ button in the ‘actions’ menu, but all it does it to log out the user and bring up the login screen, which btw has only that, it doesn’t give me the choice between the gui and the shell.
What should I do to have the shutdown, and reboot option in the gui?
Thank you
Solution:
Just select to install KDE and not gnome when you get a new disk and reinstall.
