Duplicated personal folders

Question:

Installed Windows 7 last night…
I have 2 hard drives in my computer and generally keep all my data separate from the os.

I moved my personal folders from c:\users\scott to d:\scott and then ran the mklink to create a symbolic link to the new folder.

Now when I click on start and click on scott (my personal folder)  I see 2 of everything.  my documents, my music, ect…   Its clear that they are both pointing to the same place, but it looks messy.
How can i get rid of the duplicates?

Solution:

You can’t just move system folders. Windows will re-create them. You need to carry out the built-in procedure.

Check the paths of the links to see if they’re all on D:\ or if you have two actual folders for each.

You may need to do a system restore and then go through the procedure shown in my first link. It works – I’ve done it several times.

If you still have user folders physically located on C:\ you may be able to sort it out by moving those folders again if you use the method described in my link.
