Introducing a 2003R2 server into a 2003 domain promoting it to a domain controller
Question:
Hi experts,
I have an existing Windows 2003 (Standard Edition) domain with two domain controllers. I also have a Exchange 2003 server that is not a domain controller. I want to introduce a Windows 2003 R2 server into the domain and promote it to a domain controller. As far as I know, I have to run adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep from the R2 CD 2 on both the existing 2003 Standard domain controllers. Then I should be able to dcpromo the R2 server. Is this the only steps required? If anyone could possibly point me in the correct direction of instructions to follow and also how Exchange 2003 will be influenced I’d be grateful.
Many thanks!
Solution:
That should be it – I don’t recall ever doing anything other than that (when going from a 2003 to a 2003 R2 domain – going from 2000 to 2003 is a MUCH different story).
