Only get black screen after Ubuntu 6.10 loading screen?????????
Question:
I installed Ubuntu 6.10 with a dual boot with Windows XP. The install was successful without any errors and I was able to load/run Ubuntu but now when I go to load Ubuntu it gives me the loading screen and then all I get is a black screen. I have a custom built computer with a older ATI All in Wonder graphics card. If that helps. Any ideas????
Solution:
Check the /etc/X11/xorg.conf for the resolution and refresh rate settings of your monitor. Make sure the vertical refresh rate isn’t above what your monitor can use. A normal LCD only uses 60Hz, nothing above. If you can’t edit these settings from within your installed ubuntu, use a live CD (knoppix is the best), to boot the PC and then mount the ubuntu / partition and edit that file.
