Port 3389 on WinXP not accepting/listening

Question:

My WInXP SP2 wkst behind the firewall will not accept remote Desktop requests on port 3389 from either the WAN or the local LAN.

I have done the following:
1. Tried to telnet into port 3389 from another system on the LAN. Failed. (For what it’s worth I was able to telnet into another system from the wkst I’m having the problems with). From the WAN, successfuly telnetted into another wkst on the LAN, but of course, could not telnet into the problem wkst.

2. Checked the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber. The port number is valid at decimal 3389.

3. Had the WinXP Firewall on and make sure remote desktop was clicked on under the Exceptions Tab. Tried to Telnet in. Failed.

4. Turned off the WinXP firewall and tried again. Failed.

Any Suggestions?

Solution:

also make sure that you have selected “accept incoming connections” on the computer you are trying to connect to.  my computer->properties->remote tab
