Pressing Fn + F4 changes resolution0

Question:

Hi,

At work we have 2 notebooks model notebooks.

HP Compaq 6910P and HP Elitebook 6930P.

The problem is when connecting the an external monitor or Projector via the RGB VGA Port is fine. When I press Fn + F4 to switch to dual mode (as opposed to extend display to secondary display) the resolution on the primary screen (ie, laptop LCD display) is changed to 800×600.

I’ve tried checking all the video driver settings (which is an ATI) and upgrading to the latest drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Richard

Solution:

Sounds like plug and play.  The external display is probably using EDID to communicate with your laptop and tell it to lock onto a certain resolution.

To see exactly what information the external display is sending to your computer, use this software.
