Removing First Exchange 2003 Server

Question:

Hi,

I recently moved mailboxes to another win2k3 exchange 2003 server using the following guide.

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Removing-First-Exchange-2003-Server-Part1.html

We have no routing groups and only one exchange server.

In the replication properties of public folders and all but one system folders, only the new mail server is listed.

Under System Configuration in system folders view, I have added the new server which is in sybc but am unable to remove the old server.

An Enter Network Password box appears when I click OK after rmeoving this and when I enter the domain administrator login details which are correct, I get the following error box.

The target principal name is incorrect
ID No: 80090322
Exchange System Manager

In the event logs the following is recorded:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category:      Logons
Event ID:      1024
Date:            1/7/2007
Time:            11:10:43 AM
User:            N/A
Computer:      MAILSTORE
Description:
MAILSTORE\IUSR_SRVW2K300303 was unable to log on as MAILSTORE\IUSR_SRVW2K300303 to the Public Folder Store “First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (MAILSTORE)”.

SRVW2K300303 was the name of the new mail server before I renamed it to MAILSTORE.  IIS is using IUSR_SRVW2K300303 for anonymous access thouigh I have just checked AD users and no account erxists for IUSR_SRVW2K300303 or even IUSR_MAILSTORE

There are other ISUR and IWAM accounts from old servers no longer on the domain that previoiusly ran IIS.  I tried renaming one of these to IUSR_SRVW2K300303 but I am still getting the same login box and error.

I would like to uninstall the old mail server which is currently turned off.  Everthing is working ok except there is a 30 second delay in outlook connecting to the new server where before it was instant.  Thie delay remains when nothing else ir running on the network but one workstation connected at 1000MBS.  Once connected, I can cloise and restart and it connects immediately.  But if off for any time the 30 second delay is always there.

OWA connects immediately every time.

Any thoughs appreciated.

Thanks
Jess

Solution:

System Configuration is unique to each server that it is located on.
The only folders that you need to replicate are those listed in the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822931

The IUSER accounts should have gone with the Exchange server. If the server was a domain controller then you do not need them any more. Simply delete them. The new server will have its own accounts.

Until the server is removed, diagnosing the problem with Outlook accounts delay is going to be difficult. It may go away once the server has been removed and the domain has caught up.

Simon.
